Sir Peter Blake

Since his emergence in the early 1960s as a key member of the burgeoning Pop Art movement, Sir Peter Blake, born in 1932, has been one of the best-known British artists of his generation and was knighted in 2002. Over the years, he has produced collage, sculpture, engraving and printmaking, as well as commercial art in the form of graphics and, notably, album covers, significantly, his design for The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's in 1967. His images are born from a love affair with the icons and ephemera of popular culture

"I wanted to make an art that was the visual equivalent of pop music."

He is one of the best-known British pop artists and has just had a major retospective at the Tate Liverpool. His work is represented in major collections throughout the world.
