Alice Thomson
Working in Cambridge and having been brought up in Cambridgeshire, Alice is familiar and passionate about her home city, especially inspired by the surrounding architecture, cafes and streets.
Her style has adapted to a distinctive combination of drawing, collage, paint and print. Her visual story of the city is told through her sensitive quality of line and movement, and imaginative use of colour and city life motifs, firstly adapted from quick plein air sketches and marks in line on the spot, and worked further in her home studio.
Having trained at Harrow College of Art with a BA in Illustration, she specialised in reportage illustration, capturing moments and places with a camera and sketchbook on the spot. Her papers are sometimes pre-prepared with a ground of wash, stenciled marks, and handmade and found collage papers. With no strict rules, her experimentation adds texture and insight to a place with a semi-abstract and expressive quality.
Also as a trained secondary teacher in Art and Design from Homerton College, Alice enjoys experimenting, teaching and sharing ideas with students on a part-time basis.
