Ian McWhinnie

Ian McWhinnie was born in 1952 in Glasgow. He studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art (1970-1974).

Ian's subject matter is wide and varied. Recent ideas have been developed from the sea, memories of childhood, Italy, musicians, dancers and circuses (a recurring theme).

Ian studied painting at art school and then became an art teacher specialising in ceramics. In 2002 he set up his own studio workshop and began his career as a professional potter making hand-painted, hand-built and wheel thrown pieces. Ian McWhinnie very soon realised that his distinctive designs could be equally succesful as paintings in their own right. After some experimentation he decided that oil on board was his preferred medium.

Ian McWhinnie has been exhibiting and selling his oil paintings for a relatively short period of time, yet they are already eagerly sought after and have received great critical acclaim.
