Jodie Howard
Jodie Howard is an artist and illustrator originally from the Peak District. She graduated from Cambridge School of Art in 2020 after studying illustration, and now lives near Bury St Edmunds. She has a strong interest in evoking nostalgia, feelings and memories from her art, often painting locations which she has a personal connection to. Her love of atmosphere is largely inspired by late night walks and quiet moments.
The compositions she paints are influenced by her love of film and animation, which she also applies in her work by sometimes adapting her scenes into hand-drawn animations. At the very root of her practice, Jodie frequently uses sketchbooks to observe her surroundings at the locations she is inspired by.
Jodie works by layering different mediums, normally beginning with a base layer of gouache paint, which she then builds on top of with wax pastels and pencils.
Her work has been listed in the World Illustration Awards, as well as commissioned for various clients including Gucci and Bloom Magazine.
