Yuta Segawa

Born in 1988, Shizuoka, Japan. Lives and works in London.

Yuta Segawa is a Japanese contemporary artist who is known for his expertise in miniature ceramics. His distinctive approach to ceramics blends traditional Japanese pottery techniques with a modern sensibility, resulting in pieces that are both functional and sculptural - all miniature in scale.

SGW Lab is a ceramic studio which was founded by Yuta Segawa in 2018. The mission of SGW Lab is to think about the significance of craftsmanship in the context of William Morris, to believe in the worth of human labour and to explore and practice the beautiful possibilities created by hand. Currently, there are 6 full-time staff members, including Yuta.

SGW Lab’s pottery showcases a deep respect for natural materials and the beauty of simplicity and colour. The work includes various types of vessels, from cylinders to mugs and plates. It tends to focus on the aesthetic qualities of form and texture, often highlighting the natural qualities of the clay, glazes, and firing processes.
